C.W. Kirkwood Reserve is a small neighbourhood off-leash park on Danebank Street in Kingsbury, with paved paths through open grass and a bit of shade. It is a good local top-up walk rather than a destination, and works best if your dog already has solid recall around other walkers.

The rules. Dogs can run off-leash within the designated area but must stay at least 10 metres from playgrounds and shared paths. Carry a lead and put it back on before you leave the off-leash zone. Dogs must be under voice control, and aggressive, unvaccinated or on-heat dogs are not permitted. Darebin City Council enforces fines for not picking up waste.

What's there. Bins, bench seating and paved paths are provided. There is no guaranteed water tap, so bring your own water bowl.

Getting there. Free street parking is available on Danebank Street. The Route 86 tram on Plenty Road stops within walking distance, and local buses also service the area.

Watch-outs. The reserve shares paths with regular walkers, so keep an eye out and call your dog back when others pass.

This is a shared-path park, not a fenced run, so don't let your dog off if recall is shaky.

Go early morning or mid-afternoon on a weekday if you want the space to yourselves. Weekday peak times (7-9am, 4-6pm) and weekend mornings draw the most local dogs. Good for a quick, low-key leg-stretch rather than a big-dog run.
