Hadspen Fenced Dog Park

Hadspen Fenced Dog Park is a fully enclosed off-leash run on the bank of the Meander River, part of the wider Hadspen Lions Park Reserve about 15 minutes from Launceston. It is a small, local park rather than a destination in its own right, but the secure fencing and double-gated entry make it the easy choice for a safe off-leash blowout in the Meander Valley.

The dog setup

Off leash means inside the fence: the grassy enclosure is the designated area, and dogs should be on lead everywhere else in the reserve, including the riverside paths and picnic grounds. The double-gated airlock entry keeps escapes to a minimum when you are clipping leashes on and off. Meander Valley Council rules still expect owners to stay present, supervise, and carry bags to pick up after their dogs.

One boundary detail worth knowing: the fence runs close to the riverbank in places. It will hold a dog that respects a fence line, but it is not a swim barrier, so keep an eye on dogs that like to explore edges or launch into water.

What's on site

Inside the fence there is open grass for running and fetch plus a water tap with a bowl. The surrounding Lions Park Reserve adds a playground, picnic tables, BBQs, public toilets and walking tracks along the river, and there is gravelly river access where a water-loving dog can cool off on lead. Parking is straightforward: the main car park sits at the adjacent boat ramp, so even when the fenced area has visitors there is usually room.

Max: double gates, green grass, a tap with a bowl and a river to sniff along afterwards. Hadspen gets it right.

Close by with the dogs

For an overnight base, Discovery Parks Hadspen is right in town and takes pets. If you want another fenced run, Chris Street Fenced Dog Park and Prospect Vale Dog Park are both around 10 minutes toward Launceston.
