Stillwater Seven is a boutique stay in a restored 1830s flour mill on the riverbank in Launceston, with the acclaimed Stillwater Restaurant downstairs. Just one suite is pet friendly: Room 7, which comes with its own private courtyard and outlooks over the kanamaluka/Tamar. Dogs are not permitted in the other six suites, and the pet booking must be arranged in advance rather than settled at the door. There is no nightly pet fee. A $150 cleaning fee applies only if the suite needs excessive cleaning or if a dog turns up in a non-designated room. Certified service animals are welcome across the property.

Max: flag the dog at the time of booking and confirm Room 7 is actually held for your dates. One suite means it books out, and there is no fallback on the night.

The vibe

This is heritage luxury rather than a pet motel. The seven suites sit above a fine diner known for Tasmanian seafood and produce, with convict-brick walls and massive timber beams exposed against modern fit-outs, local art and stocked mini-bars. Guests regularly single out the personal service and the breakfast included with the stay. If your dog is well mannered and you want somewhere special, this is about as good as it gets in northern Tasmania.

Getting there and parking

The address is 2 Bridge Road, right at the entrance to Cataract Gorge and directly on the river path, with the city centre a few minutes away. Free on-site parking and WiFi are included, so arrival and departure are simple.
