Chris Street Fenced Dog Park

Chris Street Fenced Dog Park, officially the Lomond Views Private Open Space, is a fully fenced off-leash field in Prospect Vale, on Launceston's southwestern edge. Meander Valley Council runs it, and the design is all about security: a double-gated entry and separate sections for large and small dogs.

The dog setup

Off-leash applies inside the fenced enclosure, reached through a double-gate system that stops dogs slipping out while you fumble with leads and bags. Keep a lead on outside the fence, stay in the park with your dog, step in if play gets rough, and bag the waste; bag stations are stocked most visits. On site you also get a water fountain, shaded seating and free nearby street parking. There are no lights, so this is a daylight park, and it is not set up for wheelchair access.

One thing to know before you go: the park backs onto a main road. You can see approaching dogs and owners easily, which helps with introductions, but the road noise and proximity can rattle a nervous dog. Try a weekday morning first if yours is anxious.

The vibe

Weekday mornings and early afternoons are quiet, while weekday evenings after 4pm and weekend late mornings draw the regulars. The large-and-small split is the main reason to pick this one over an open field, especially if you have a small dog that gets flattened in mixed play. It is a practical suburban park rather than a scenic one.

Getting there and parking

The park sits off Chris Street in Prospect Vale, close to the Bass Highway, about a ten-minute drive from central Launceston. Free street parking is nearby. Public transport options at the gate are limited, so driving is the practical choice.

Close by with the dogs

Prospect Vale has its own second option in Prospect Vale Dog Park, and two more strong fenced parks are a short hop away: Hardwicke Street Reserve at Summerhill and Hadspen Fenced Dog Park further west. If you are staying over, Discovery Parks Hadspen takes dogs at the edge of town.
