Jock Forsyth Dog grounds

The Jock Forsyth Dog Grounds on Bungonia Road sit inside the Goulburn Recreation Area, and they are not your standard council dog park. This is the home ground of the Goulburn Dog Training and Kennel Club, used for training, agility and shows, which shapes both what it offers and when you can use it.

The dog setup

Expect large open grassed showground space rather than a fenced recreational enclosure, with no double-gated entries or public bag dispensers. It is ideal ground for obedience work, recall training and letting a well-trained dog stretch out on a long line.

Because the grounds serve club activities and championship shows, access can be restricted or closed entirely on scheduled event, trial and show dates. Check ahead before planning a visit, and keep your dog under genuine effective control at all times while on the grounds.

Worth knowing

If you want a casual drop-the-leash session, Goulburn Mulwaree Council points to its dedicated off-leash parks instead, several of which are fully fenced with gates, water and bags. Treat Jock Forsyth as the place for structured training and exposure to show-style environments rather than everyday play.

The grounds also host the Goulburn A P & H Society's championship shows, which are worth a look with a dog-mad kid in tow if entry is open on the day. Between events the lawns are usually quiet, with plenty of room to park a car and a crate.

Max: time a visit around the club's public training days if you can. Watching experienced handlers work their dogs is the best free lesson your pup will get.

Getting there

The address is 23 Bungonia Road, Goulburn NSW 2580, on Goulburn's southern side within the recreation and showground precinct. Parking is on the showground grounds with level access onto the grass, and the Hume Highway southern exit puts you minutes away.
