Australian Native Bonsai

Australian Native Bonsai is a cafe, native plant nursery and bonsai display rolled into one, set inside a converted old garage with a backyard garden on Auburn Street in central Goulburn. It is an unusual, garden-style place to slow down with a coffee, and the relaxed layout makes it an easy stop with a calm dog.

Seating is mostly outdoor and semi-outdoor among the plants, so well-behaved dogs on a lead can settle in beside you while you browse or drink. There is some shelter if the weather turns, but it is a garden space rather than a weatherproof room. The setup is casual: no dog menu and no house bowls, so bring your own water.

The vibe

This is a wander-at-your-pace stop rather than a quick-bite cafe. Alongside coffee, tea, hot chocolate and cake there are Australian native bonsai specimens, fresh flowers, organic soaps and candles to browse, and the owners enjoy a chat. If you want a slow half hour between Hume Highway stints, this is the kind of place that gives it to you.

The address is 66 Auburn Street, Goulburn, in the historic commercial strip, with street parking on Auburn Street and public lots nearby. Hours run Wednesday to Sunday from 8am to 4pm, closed Monday and Tuesday; as a small operator it can shift days, so confirm before a special trip.
