K and Gz

K and Gz is a busy family-run cafe in the Merino Estate on Goulburn's eastern edge at 9 Franklin Street, and it has one trick no other cafe in town offers: a drive-thru. For anyone travelling the Hume with a dog, that makes it an easy stop when you would rather not leave anyone tied up or waiting in the car.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the outdoor and courtyard tables, which is where to aim when you are sitting down. Staff have a good reputation for looking after visiting dogs, but bring a collapsible bowl in case the cafe's own bowls are in use. Inside is people only, so plan for the outside tables, and if the weather turns the drive-thru is the fallback for a coffee without leaving the car.

Worth knowing

The menu covers all-day breakfast and lunch with big servings that get a steady mention in reviews, a wide vegetarian and vegan range, bacon and egg rolls and acai bowls among the regulars. Hours run Monday to Friday 6am to 4pm and Saturday 8am to 3pm, closed Sundays, so Sunday travellers plan around it. As a drive-thru cafe it also suits a quick in-and-out run on a road trip day.

Getting there and parking

Franklin Street is an easy detour off the Hume corridor through Goulburn's east, with free street parking and public lots nearby. Pair the stop with a proper off-lead run at the Victoria Park Fenced Dog Park, about five minutes away with secure fencing, shade and seating.
