Thirsty Farmer

Thirsty Farmer is the juice, smoothie and acai bar on the menu at Cafe 5911, an all-day cafe on Montague Street in central Goulburn, directly opposite Belmore Park. For travellers breaking up a run along the Hume Highway it is an easy detour for coffee, breakfast or a cold drink, with grass and shade across the road for a leg stretch.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the undercover outdoor seating, where water bowls are put out for four-legged visitors, while the dining room inside stays humans-only. Belmore Park sits right across the street, so you can alternate a wander of the park with a table out the front without much planning.

The vibe

The kitchen covers all-day breakfast, burgers, pasta and salads, with pizza from 4pm on Tuesday to Saturday nights. The Thirsty Farmer side of the menu leans cold and fresh: iced coffees and teas, slushies, smoothies, sundaes and acai bowls, plus milkshakes for the kids.

Coffee is the house Merino blend, roasted locally and named for Goulburn's famous merino statue, with soy, oat, coconut and almond milk on hand for anyone avoiding dairy.

Pepsi: the undercover tables out the front make this an easy stop in wet weather, and Belmore Park right opposite is handy for a quick walk before or after you eat.

Getting there and parking

Cafe 5911 is at 10 Montague Street, a couple of minutes from Goulburn's main street, with street parking around the park and the surrounding blocks. Hours run from 6:30am on weekdays, 7am on weekends, with the kitchen closing in the afternoon on Mondays and Sundays and dinner service on Tuesday through Saturday evenings. There is a second Cafe 5911 over in Bradfordville if you are staying on that side of town.

Close by with the dogs

Belmore Park is an on-lead wander directly opposite, and for a proper run there is the fenced Victoria Park Fenced Dog Park or the Jock Forsyth Dog Grounds, both a short drive away. Overnight, the Lilac City Motor Inn takes dogs and is close to the cafe strip.
