Summerhill Park Dog Off Leash Area(Glen Iris)

Summerhill Park is a leafy neighbourhood reserve around Prosper Parade in Glen Iris, with its off-leash area set on wide, mostly flat grass under mature shade trees. It is a relaxed local run used mainly by regulars rather than a crowd-drawing destination, and the shade canopy alone puts it ahead of most of Stonnington's open reserves on a hot day.

The dog setup

The off-leash grass is unfenced, so recall matters. Stonnington's conditions are the standard set: carry a lead and leash your dog when entering and leaving the park, keep dogs on lead near the playground, BBQ areas and any active sporting event, and keep them under effective voice and visual control on the off-leash grass. Picking up is required and bins are provided, with dog waste bags usually stocked. There is park seating across the reserve, and a water tap or bowl is generally accessible, though it pays to carry water on hot days. The wider park precinct typically includes public toilets.

Getting there and parking

Street parking is generally easy along Prosper Parade, Montana Street or Summerhill Road. Gardiner Station on the Glen Waverley line is roughly a 15 to 20 minute walk, and local bus routes serve the area, so a car-free visit is workable. The flat ground makes for easy stroller and older-dog access.

Max: mature trees plus unfenced grass means the afternoon regulars are settled in by 4pm. If your dog needs space to settle, get there before the after-work wave.

When to go

Busiest windows are 7am to 9am and again from about 3.30pm to 6pm on weekdays, when the local commute crowd cycles through. For a quieter run, aim for a mid-week evening or a Sunday afternoon.
