Gardiner Park Dog Off Leash Area

Gardiner Park, on the corner of Carroll Crescent and Clarke Street, is a large, flat sportsground reserve in Glen Iris with a designated off-leash area run by the City of Stonnington. The drawcard is sheer space: open grass big enough for a proper run, with floodlighting that keeps it usable after work through the winter months.

Off-lead, open, and shared with sport

Dogs go on-lead until you are fully inside the park and stay under effective control at all times, with a two-dog limit per person. The sporting ovals are out of bounds during organised matches, training and school sport, which is most afternoons and weekends through the season. Bags and bins are supplied in the off-lead areas, so clean-up is easy. Treat the space as unfenced: reports of an enclosed run are unconfirmed, so recall is your safety net.

The vibe

This is a working sportsground first and a dog park second, with public toilets, BBQ and picnic facilities, and accessible parking and entrances. Soccer, rugby and football bring regular crowds, and small dogs need closer watching when games are on. One thing to mind: the reserve backs onto the Monash Freeway, so keep off-lead dogs well clear of the boundary edges. Weekday mornings before 8:30am give you the most open grass; weekends and weekday evenings, especially during soccer training, are the busy windows.

Getting there and parking

Street parking lines the residential streets around the entrance. Gardiner Station on the Glen Waverley line is close by, and the park is a short walk off the Gardiners Creek Trail, which makes it a natural stop on a longer on-lead walk.

While you're out there

Several good alternatives sit within easy reach. Summerhill Park is another Glen Iris off-leash option, and Central Park at Malvern East combines open space with established gardens. For something different, Sydare Reserve is a compact local favourite nearby.
