Fagan Park Fenced Dog Park

Fagan Park's fenced dog park sits inside the 55-hectare reserve at 38-48 Arcadia Road, Galston, managed by Hornsby Shire Council. It is a large, fully fenced off-leash area built for dogs that need room to run hard, and the wider park's gardens and picnic lawns make it a full family outing rather than a quick exercise stop.

The dog setup

The enclosure uses rural heritage-style fencing with a double-gated entry airlock, concrete paths and a generous open run suited to ball games. A tap with a drinking bowl, bag dispensers and bins sit inside, plus seating for owners, though the owner seating is unshaded so bring a hat in summer.

Dogs are off-leash only inside the fence and on-lead everywhere else in the park. Supervision by a competent person is expected at all times, cleanup is strictly enforced with the provided bags, and dogs showing aggression toward people or other dogs are not tolerated.

The vibe

Council hours run 7am to 5:30pm daily, extended to 6:30pm in daylight saving, and the whole park closes on Christmas Day. Weekday mornings are the quiet slot; weekends bring family picnics, so the enclosure fills with a friendly, mixed crowd. On-lead walks around the dam loop and the Gardens of Many Nations extend the visit nicely once the run is done.

Max: do the enclosure lap first, then take the on-lead dam loop while your dog settles. The park's best feature is that the walk does not end at the gate.

Getting there and parking

Aim for the southern car park off Arcadia Road, about 300 metres from the dog park, with a second entry via Carrs Road. Vehicle parking is $7.50 per day at the machine, and Hornsby Shire residents can cut that to nothing with an annual pass. Public transport is thin in these hills, so a car is the realistic option.

While you're out there

The broader park covers playgrounds, electric barbecues and picnic shelters, so split the day between the dog run and the kids.
