Hornsby Dog Park

Hornsby Dog Park sits within Rofe Park on Galston Road, Hornsby Heights, backed by bushland at the edge of the suburb. It is one of the shire's most used off-leash spaces: fully fenced, well shaded by mature trees, and big enough for a proper run, drawing owners from across Hornsby rather than just the immediate streets.

The dog setup

The enclosure is fully fenced with double-gate entries, and the layout splits into a large open run for general play plus a dedicated separate zone for small dogs. Dog water stations and drinking bowls are installed, waste bags and bins are supplied, and bench seating gives owners a spot in the shade. Public toilets sit within Rofe Park itself, a short walk from the enclosure.

Worth knowing

The one restriction to plan around: the Hornsby Dog Training Club holds exclusive use of the space every Sunday from 12:30pm to 4:30pm, and no other dogs are allowed inside during that window. The club runs sessions there week to week, so the lockout is reliably enforced rather than occasional.

Max: if you arrive at 12:25 on a Sunday you will be asked to leave. Save the Sunday visit for early morning instead.

Getting there and parking

The park is at 100 Galston Road, five to ten minutes from Hornsby town centre, with a free on-site car park right beside the recreation area. Buses run along Galston Road with stops nearby. The bushland walking tracks that start from Rofe Park make a good lead-warm-up before an off-leash session, or a cooldown afterwards.

When to go

Weekday mornings are the calm window; weekend mornings and the Sunday training block are the busiest. The regulars are described as friendly and the park keeps a community feel, so it also works as a social spot for owners new to the area.

While you're out there

Back towards the station, Brewhaha and Cozy Cups by Absolute Thai are Hornsby coffee stops worth a detour on the drive home.
