Moomba Park Dog park

Moomba Park's dog park is the fenced off-leash enclosure beside the Merri Creek trail in Fawkner, run by Merri-bek City Council. The reason to come is the security: a fully enclosed run with agility gear and split zones for big and small dogs, so a fast or nervous dog can stretch out without a road or an open boundary to worry about.

The dog setup

Off-leash is limited to the fenced enclosure, which carries agility obstacles, separate big-dog and small-dog areas, fresh water stations, shaded seating and shelters. Public toilets sit within the wider park.

Anywhere else in the reserve, Merri-bek council rules apply: leash up within 15 metres of the playground and the sporting grounds, keep your dog under voice or hand control throughout, and carry your own bags since the on-site supply is not reliable.

Worth knowing

The park wraps around a sports oval and tennis club, so the ground near the ovals reverts to on-lead whenever organised sport or training is on. The paths down to the Merri Creek also pass through riparian pockets where signage may require a lead, so glance at the markers on your way through.

Max: the fence is the whole selling point here. If your dog has patchy recall but loves to run, this is the Fawkner option, and the small-dog zone keeps the greeting stage calm for shy newcomers.

Getting there and parking

The park sits at 2-30 McBryde St, Fawkner, with free parking on-site near the pavilion and tennis club. Gowrie Station on the Upfield line is a moderate walk away, and the Merri Creek Trail gives an easy approach on foot or bike.

For a second off-leash session in Fawkner, Charles Mutton Reserve Dog Off Leash Area is the local alternative, and a longer on-lead leg-stretch continues along the creek towards the Fleming Park dog area further south.
