What visitors mention
Tallebudgera Island Dog Off Leash Area is a genuine island given over entirely to dogs, tucked inside Eddie Kornhauser Recreational Reserve in Elanora, ringed by tidal water with sandy swimming spots and open grass for running.
The rules. Dogs can run off-leash on the island itself, but must stay leashed on the access paths from the car park to the bridge and through the surrounding reserve. The island is not fenced, it is bordered by water instead, with generally gentle banks. Owners are expected to keep voice control over their dogs and clean up waste immediately, poo bags are provided.
What's there. A dedicated agility area has pipes, beams and ramps for dogs that like to work. Several small sandy beaches around the island edge give easy water access, and shaded benches are dotted around for a rest. Bins sit near the bridge and the agility area, and toilets and a playground are near the car park.
Getting there. Access is via Casuarina Drive, with free parking near the reserve entrance. From the car park shelter, follow the path and veer right over the bridge onto the island. If you are relying on public transport, check Translink for buses on Pine Ridge Road or Murraba Street, then walk in.
The water. The channel around the island is tidal. High tide gives deeper water for swimming, low tide opens up mudflats instead. After heavy rain the island can get muddy underfoot, though it tends to dry out fairly quickly.

Nearby with the dogs. There is no cafe on site, so bring your own water and snacks. Dog-friendly cafes and pet-friendly accommodation are within a short drive around Palm Beach and Currumbin.
When to go. Weekday mornings or afternoons are quietest, weekend mornings between 8 and 10am draw the biggest crowds. If your dog is nervous around groups, aim for an overcast weekday and check the tide first.
