Melaleuca Dog Park

Melaleuca Dog Park is a big, open grassed run inside the Mallawa Drive sports complex, just off Nineteenth Avenue in Palm Beach. It gives high energy dogs room to stretch out properly, with one catch worth knowing before you unclip: the off leash area is not fenced.

The dog setup

The off leash space runs alongside and through active sports grounds, so it works best for dogs with reliable recall and solid voice control. You can use it at any time of day, except when sport is on. When soccer or netball is underway on the adjacent fields and courts, those playing areas are off limits to dogs entirely.

The ground is wide, flat and mostly grass, with some shade trees depending on which section you settle in. Seating out on the open fields is sparse, so bring a chair if you plan to stay a while. Drinking fountains and taps are installed around the complex, but carrying your own water bowl is still the safer bet on hot Gold Coast mornings.

Max: No fence and live sports fields next door, so this is a recall test, not a place to let a flight risk dog loose. If your dog chases balls, skip the Saturday morning sport rush entirely.

Worth knowing

Because the complex doubles as a competition venue, the feel of the place changes with the fixture list. Weekend mornings bring junior sport and crowds, while mid morning on weekdays and early afternoons on weekends are far quieter. Dawn and late afternoon draw a regular local crew.

The broader complex has picnic shelters, tables and public toilets, and there is a playground on site that stays strictly out of bounds for dogs. Bins and bag dispensers are provided around the grounds, though it never hurts to carry spares.

Getting there and parking

From the Gold Coast Highway, turn into Nineteenth Avenue then onto Melaleuca Drive. There is on site parking plus plenty of free street parking along Melaleuca Drive. Bus routes along the highway leave you with a short walk to the complex.

While you're out there
