Tallebudgera Offleash Dog Beach - No Fence

Tallebudgera's off-leash dog beach sits on the ocean side where Tallebudgera Creek meets the sea at the northern end of Palm Beach, with the surf club groyne marking the creek mouth. It is an unfenced 24/7 off-leash stretch with beach on one side and the creek's sheltered water just across the groyne, looking across to Burleigh Headland.

The dog setup

The off-leash zone runs along the ocean beach between Tallebudgera Surf Club's patrol tower and the rock groyne at the creek entrance, and it is off-leash around the clock. Dogs must stay under effective control and well clear of the red and yellow flagged swimming area; council rules keep dogs out of patrolled zones at all times.

The big trap is the creek itself: the calm swimming side inside Tallebudgera Creek near the bridge is dog prohibited, and rangers patrol it because the mistake is common. Keep your dog on the ocean side of the groyne, and back on lead through the surf club lawn and the surrounding paths and car parks, where leashes apply. Carry bags and use the bins provided.

Worth knowing

There is no fence and the creek mouth sits right there, so this is a beach for dogs with a reliable recall. Low to mid tide gives the most sand and the calmest water, while the current around the groyne and creek mouth can run hard at high tide. The ocean side suits confident swimmers; there is no sheltered lagoon option for dogs here.

Max: everybody gets the creek wrong. The pretty calm water inside Tallebudgera Creek is the one place you cannot take your dog, so head for the surf side of the groyne and you are all set.

Getting there and parking

The beach is off the Gold Coast Highway near the surf club, with a large car park at Tallebudgera SLSC plus toilets, showers and picnic facilities. Translink buses on the 700 and 777 routes stop nearby. Parking fills fast on sunny mornings and weekends, so arrive early.

Close by with the dogs

The southern end of Palm Beach has a different flavour at Palm Beach Dog Off-Leash Beach, where the beach wraps around into the Currumbin Creek lagoon and dogs get both surf and flat water.
