Dune Cafe sits inside Palm Beach Parklands, right on Currumbin Creek, which makes it the obvious coffee stop before or after a run on the dog beach next door. It is a relaxed, busy coastal cafe that takes dogs seriously.

The dog setup. Dogs are welcome across the extensive outdoor deck and the surrounding parkland grass, with creek and lagoon views from the tables. There is a dedicated dog tie-up area, and staff are used to four-legged regulars, so water bowls are usually about. Keep your dog on lead at the tables and through the parklands.

Good to know. The kitchen is known for bacon benny stuffed croissants, organic spelt pancakes and specialty coffee. It opens early (from around 6am) and the kitchen winds down mid-afternoon, so it is a breakfast-and-lunch spot rather than a dinner one.

Getting there. At 945 Gold Coast Hwy, on the northern side of Currumbin Creek. Free off-street parking sits in the Palm Beach Parklands car park directly beside the cafe, which is a real advantage on a busy weekend.

Nearby with the dogs. The off-leash parklands and the Tallebudgera/Palm Beach dog beach are right alongside, with shallow creek water for a paddle and open green space for a walk before coffee.

Do the beach first, then the deck. A salty, sandy dog is a calm dog under the table, and the creek views are worth lingering over.
