Scott's Luncheonette & Bar

Scott's Luncheonette & Bar is an intimate, modern-retro spot on the Gold Coast Highway in Palm Beach, built around premium toasted sangas, charcuterie and, come the afternoon, cocktails. The room is small, so with a dog the footpath tables out the front are where you sit, and they open straight onto the street side of one of the coast's better sandwich kitchens.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the outdoor dining tables, which sit directly on the footpath. Staff are generally happy to bring out a water bowl on request. Because the space is tight and right on the walking route, keep your dog on a short lead and settled under the table so other diners and passers-by can get through. A dog that stays put suits this venue far better than a social butterfly.

Worth knowing

The kitchen is known for inventive gourmet sandwiches, a Reuben and a Mexican pork among them, often built on house-cured meats, and the menu ranges from a brekky sanga to a crab sanga, Philly cheesesteak and fish tacos. Charcuterie plates and gorgonzola chips cover the snacking, and there is a tidy beer and cocktail list for later in the day. The gluten-free sandwich options have a strong reputation.

Max: watch the Wednesday hours, they close early at 1pm. Every other day runs to 3pm, but a 6am open makes a pre-work coffee and sanga run easy.

Getting there and parking

The address is 1/1114 Gold Coast Highway, Palm Beach. Street parking runs along the highway and the side streets such as Seventh and Eighth Avenue, and Translink buses 700 and 777 stop nearby on the highway, handy if you are walking the dog along the coastal footpaths.

Close by with the dogs

For an off-leash run before lunch, the Tallebudgera off leash dog beach at the creek is a short drive away. Barefoot Barista on the same strip covers the coffee-first visits, and House of Hubert down at Tugun is an easy second stop.
