Tarte Bakery & Cafe sits on the corner of James Street and the Gold Coast Highway, in the busy heart of Burleigh Heads. It is a premium French-style bakery, and the draw for dog owners is the spacious outdoor seating where well-behaved dogs are welcome alongside the morning pastry queue.

The dog setup. Dogs are welcome at the outdoor footpath and patio tables, not inside the bakery itself, which is reserved for service animals on food-safety grounds. Staff are used to dogs and water bowls are often on hand, though it is worth bringing your own bowl on a hot day. The outdoor area is good for people-watching while your dog settles at your feet.

Good to know. Tarte is known for gourmet croissants, cookies and pastries that sell out fast, plus a solid brunch menu. It is walk-in only with no bookings, so expect a wait at peak times.

Getting there and parking. Street parking on James Street and Connor Street is limited and fills quickly. There is a free two-hour lot behind the nearby Coles on Connor Street, or beachfront street parking a short walk away.

This corner gets loud and crowded at weekend peak. If your dog is noise-shy, grab a table at the quieter end or come before 8am.

Nearby with the dogs. Burleigh Head National Park trails and the Burleigh Beach foreshore are both a short walk away, so you can fold a coffee stop into a longer beach walk.
