What visitors mention
East Fremantle Community Park's fenced dog exercise area sits inside the redeveloped East Fremantle Oval precinct on Forrest Street, giving off-leash dogs a secure, modern space right next to a cafe, playground and skate zone, with the one catch that leashes go back on for WAFL match days.
The rules. Dogs run off-leash in the fenced area except on WAFL match days, when they must be leashed. Carry a lead at all times in case you need to regain control, keep dogs under effective supervision, and stay out of the children's playground area entirely, even on a leash.
What's there. The fenced yard sits within a much bigger precinct: a cafe/restaurant/bar, health club, skate zone and an all-abilities nature play space are all a short walk away, so it is easy to make a morning of it. Some external areas are covered by CCTV.
Watch-outs. Owners of small or agile dogs should check gate gaps carefully. There have been reports of gaps under some gates large enough for small to medium dogs to slip through onto the oval or road, so do not assume the fence line is fully sealed everywhere.
Getting there. The park is at East Fremantle Oval, South Stand, Forrest Street, East Fremantle. On-site parking serves the precinct, and bus routes along Stirling Highway and Marmion Street stop within easy walking distance.
Nearby with the dogs. Zephyr Cafe at John Tonkin Reserve is popular for its dog-friendly outdoor seating by the water, and Little Fire on George Street welcomes dogs on its outdoor tables. Both are a short drive away.

Weekend mornings are the busiest window. Mid-week mornings or weekday afternoons are quieter if your dog does not love a crowd. Always check the day's sport fixture before you go, since WAFL match days mean leashes stay on.
