5Turners Cafe sits inside the Blinc and Co Art Gallery and Studios at 17 Blinco Street, Fremantle, a homestyle cafe where you eat surrounded by rotating local artwork and quirky designer seating. It is one of Fremantle's more genuinely dog-welcoming cafes: the venue's own page says dogs are welcome both inside and out, which puts it ahead of the footpath-only norm.

The kitchen does homestyle breakfast and lunch with vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options through the cabinet and board. Regulars rate the halloumi bagel, the almost-Reuben sandwich, house-made sausage rolls and pork belly curry pies, with rotating bagel creations and daily salads keeping the counter interesting. Coffee is consistently praised for being smooth and well extracted rather than bitter, and the custard-filled croissants are the usual sweet pick. The chai latte gets its own share of fans.

Getting there and hours

Find it on Blinco Street, a block from the Fremantle Arts Centre, with free street parking usually available nearby; the entrance and seating are wheelchair accessible. Hours are short and gallery-driven: roughly 7:30am to early afternoon on weekdays, about 8am to 1pm Saturdays, and closed Sundays, and they can shift with gallery events, so check the cafe's Facebook page before you go. It is a breakfast-and-lunch venue, not an afternoon one.

Close by with the dogs

The Fremantle Arts Centre grounds just up the road give you an on-lead grass stroll before coffee, and the East Fremantle Community Park Fenced Dog Park is a short drive east for a proper off-lead run. The Fremantle Groyne down at South Beach covers the beach-walk side of the loop. If you are chaining coffees, The Salty Beetroot is another dog-friendly Freo option.
