Saint Georges Crescent Reserve Unfenced Off-leash Dog Park

Saint Georges Crescent Reserve is a hillside waterfront park on Lower St Georges Crescent in Drummoyne, with wide views over Iron Cove. It is a designated City of Canada Bay off-leash area, but this is no fenced pen: the reserve is an open grassy slope running from the road at the top down to the harbour foreshore at the bottom, so the quality of your dog's recall decides whether this park is a joy or a liability.

The dog setup

Council lists off-leash hours at this reserve as before 9am and after 5pm, with dogs on lead at other times, so time your visit to the windows. Even off-leash, dogs must stay under effective control of a competent person, and with no fencing at either boundary, a dog that bolts can reach the road above or the water below quickly. If recall is not rock solid, keep the lead on and work the paved paths instead. Council bag dispensers are on site but can run empty, so carry your own bags.

The terrain

The reserve is a sloping grassed hillside with some paved paths and mature trees for shade, though shade and water are not guaranteed, so bring a bowl. Direct access to the foreshore at the bottom lets water dogs have a swim, but the water's edge turns muddy at low tide; aim for a higher tide if a clean splash is the goal. The slope itself gives dogs a genuine workout in a way flat parks do not.

Getting there and parking

Free on-street parking along St Georges Crescent is competitive, being a prime waterfront strip. Buses run along Victoria Road and Lyons Road with a short walk down to the reserve. The Iron Cove foreshore path passes nearby, so combining a visit with the Bay Run is straightforward.

Close by with the dogs

The Queen Victoria Reserve Off-Leash Dog Park down the hill is a flatter waterfront alternative, and the Bay Run loops the whole cove for an on-lead leg stretch.
