Brett Park Unfenced Off-Leash Dog Park

Brett Park runs along Henley Marine Drive in Drummoyne, right beside the Bay Run, and its flat grass area opposite Sisters Crescent doubles as one of Canada Bay's off lead dog areas. It sits on the Parramatta River foreshore, which makes it an easy stop to bolt onto a loop of Iron Cove.

Max: no fence between the off lead grass and the Bay Run, so recall needs to be sharp before you unclip.

The dog setup

The off lead zone is the open grassed area on the foreshore, and it is completely unfenced, bordered by the shared path on one side and open water on the other. Council hours apply: off lead before 9am and after 5pm daily, on lead the rest of the time. Effective control and a working recall are non negotiable given the traffic on the Bay Run beside it. Dogs stay on lead in the car park, on footpaths and within 10 metres of the playground, and pick up goes in the bins provided.

Worth knowing

Open grass with scattered trees, benches and waste bins; public toilets and the Brett Park playscape sit in the wider park. Because the park faces the river, a swim prone dog gets water access at the edge, so keep an eye on tides if that is your dog's idea of fetch.

Getting there and parking

Come in via Henley Marine Drive or Sisters Crescent. Street parking lines the drive and the side streets, and it fills quickly on weekend mornings when the Bay Run is at its busiest. Buses run along Victoria Road with a short walk in, and Drummoyne Wharf is five to eight minutes away for ferry arrivals.

While you're out there

Sunday mornings and afternoons are the busy stretches; weeknights and early Sunday evenings are quiet. The obvious pairing is the Bay Run via Brett Park, an on lead loop that starts at the gate. White Rabbit on Lyons Road is a dog friendly coffee stop nearby, and if you would rather have a fence, the Five Dock Park Fenced Dog Park is a short drive away.
