Five Dock Park Fenced Dog Park

Five Dock Park's fenced dog park, off Barnstaple Road in Sydney's inner west, runs two separate off-leash enclosures, one for small dogs and one for large, open around the clock with double-gate airlock entries so nobody slips out while you are unclipping. It is the reliable choice in the area for genuine off-leash play without a shared park boundary.

The dog setup

Off-leash applies only inside the enclosures, not the rest of Five Dock Park, so keep the leash on until you are through both gates. Stay inside with your dog and keep voice control. Each side has its own water tap, and bags and bins are supplied with pickup mandatory.

Mature trees shade the perimeter benches, though there is no lighting inside the fences; the main paths through the wider park are lit at night. The precinct is partway through a Canada Bay Council upgrade, with new pathways and accessible parking near the Bowling Club, so some works are still in progress.

The vibe

Weekday mornings and afternoons are quiet; Sunday afternoons and weekend late-mornings draw the biggest packs and take the street parking with them. If the large-dog side is packed, the small-dog enclosure is usually calmer and still fully fenced. The wider park adds sports fields, a skate park, playground and picnic areas for a longer family stop.

Getting there and parking

Drive in via Barnstaple Road or Ingham Avenue, both with on-street parking that fills fast on weekend mornings. Local buses run along Great North Road with a short walk in. There are no toilets inside the dog enclosure, but facilities sit near the sports field grandstand.

While you're out there

The Lab - Black Poison on Queens Road and Livvi's Cafe on Henley Marine Drive both welcome dogs outdoors. To stretch the walk, The Bay Run loop around Iron Cove starts nearby, and the Queen Victoria Reserve Off-Leash Dog Park is across the bridge at Drummoyne.
