What visitors mention
Five Dock Park's fenced dog park, off Barnstaple Road, gives you two separate off-leash enclosures, one for small dogs and one for large dogs, open 24/7 with double-gate airlock entries so nobody escapes while you're getting the leash off.
The rules. Off-leash play is permitted only inside the fenced enclosures, not the rest of Five Dock Park. Owners need to stay inside the enclosure with their dog and keep voice control. Poop bags and bins are supplied, and cleaning up is mandatory.
What's there. The park is split into a small-dog area and a large-dog area, each with its own water tap. Mature trees give shade over benches on the perimeter. There's no lighting inside the enclosures themselves, though the main paths through the wider park are lit at night. As of mid-2026 the precinct is partway through an upgrade, with new pathways and accessible parking near the Bowling Club.
Getting there. Drive in via Barnstaple Road or Ingham Avenue, both of which have on-street parking, though it fills fast on weekend mornings. Local buses run along Great North Road with a short walk in from there.
Nearby with the dogs. The Home Grounds cafe sits inside Five Dock Park itself. The Lab - Black Poison on Queens Road and Livvi's Cafe on Henley Marine Drive (right on the Bay Run) are both a short trip away and welcome dogs outdoors.

When to go. Weekday mornings and afternoons are quiet. Sunday afternoons and weekend late-mornings draw the biggest crowds and the street parking goes with them, so aim earlier in the day if you want the run to yourself. Good for dogs that need genuine off-leash space without the risk of a shared park boundary.
