Bede Spillane Reserve Fenced Dog Park

Bede Spillane Reserve on Queen Street is a fully fenced, 24-hour off-leash dog park in the middle of Croydon's residential streets, and the double-gate airlock entry plus floodlights make it one of the more secure and usable options in the inner west, day or night.

The rules. The fenced area is off-leash; once you're outside the gates, dogs go back on lead. It's open around the clock, entry is via a secure double-gate airlock so dogs cannot bolt while you're getting the second gate open, and owners are expected to clean up after their dogs (bags are provided on site).

What's there. The park is a large, flat, grassy rectangle with a central garden and some mature trees for shade, a water station with a bowl, park benches, rubbish bins, and floodlights for evening visits. It's also listed as wheelchair accessible.

Getting there. It's on Queen Street, Croydon, with free but non-dedicated street parking nearby. Croydon railway station (T2 line) is a short walk away, and local buses run along Liverpool Road.

Watch-outs. The flat, grassy surface can hold water and turn muddy after heavy rain. It's a popular park, so expect a crowd.

Nearby with the dogs. Croydon Village on The Strand has a handful of dog-friendly cafes with outdoor seating within an easy walk. For pet-friendly accommodation, nearby Ashfield and Burwood have a wider range of options, though always confirm the pet policy before booking.

Weekday mid-morning to early afternoon is the quietest window. Evenings, especially after work in winter when the floodlights come on, are the busiest, so if your dog finds big groups overwhelming, steer clear of the 5pm to 7pm rush.
