Queen Victoria Reserve Off-Leash Dog Park

Queen Victoria Reserve sits on the northern tip of Drummoyne on Queen Victoria Street, a quiet waterside park looking out over the Parramatta River. The dog appeal is unusual for the Inner West: a small sandy river beach for swimming plus a sloping grassed area to run. The catch is that off-leash access is time-shared, so arriving at the right hour matters as much as choosing the right park.

The dog setup

Dogs are off-leash only before 9am and after 5pm daily, and must be on lead at all other times under City of Canada Bay rules. The reserve is unfenced and opens directly onto the water on one side and a road on the other, so effective voice control is essential; if your dog's recall is patchy, keep the lead on and treat the sandy beach as a supervised play zone rather than a free-run area. Poo bag dispensers and bins are provided and cleaning up is a legal requirement. There are no public toilets and no water taps, so bring your own water and bowl.

The water

The small sandy river beach gives easy access for a paddle or a serious swim, and it is tidal: low to mid-tide exposes the most sand for play, while high tide shrinks the beach back to the grass. The grassed slope above the beach carries the run-around duties when the water is up.

Getting there and parking

Free on-street parking along Queen Victoria Street is generally easy to find, which is a rarity for this part of Sydney. The reserve sits off St Georges Crescent, close to Birkenhead Point and the Bay Run circuit, so it slots neatly into a longer foreshore outing.
