Nield Park Pavilion

Nield Park Pavilion sits right on the Bay Run at Rodd Point, looking straight out over Iron Cove from Henley Marine Drive. It is the natural mid-loop or post-loop stop for the thousands of walkers and runners who circle the bay each week, and dogs are welcome in the outdoor terrace.

The dog setup

The terrace tables out front look over the park and the water, and staff generally accommodate dogs, with water bowls often put out. Be aware that feedback on the pet setup is mixed: the dog-friendly spots can be limited to the lower, more casual seating, and where you can sit may tighten during peak periods or wet weather. Confirm with staff on the day, particularly on a first visit.

Worth knowing

The menu covers both camps well: bacon and egg rolls and eggs benedict for the morning walkers, plus a steak sandwich, halloumi salad and a southern fried chicken burger for anyone settling in. Coffee is decent and prices are reasonable for the position. The cafe sits next to a playground, so weekends fill with families as well as the regular Bay Run traffic.

Getting there and parking

The address is 89A Henley Marine Drive, Rodd Point, in Sydney's inner west. Street parking along Henley Marine Drive and the surrounding residential streets is limited, so arriving on foot or by bike along the Bay Run path is often easier, especially on weekend mornings. Weekday mornings are calmer if you want an easy table with a dog in tow.

Close by with the dogs

The obvious pairing is the Bay Run itself, a 7-kilometre on-lead loop around Iron Cove that starts practically at the door. For off-lead time, the Five Dock Park fenced dog park is a short walk away.
