Wilsons Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

Wilsons Reserve is a roughly 2.9-hectare community reserve on Wilsons Road in Doncaster, sitting alongside the Koonung Creek Linear Park. The sportsground is where the off-leash run happens, with the tree-lined linear park next door for on-lead walking, which makes it a flexible two-in-one spot in Melbourne's east.

The dog setup

Under Manningham Council rules, dogs go off-lead on the sportsground only when no organised sport or event is on; during cricket or soccer the lead goes back on or you move off the field. Dogs come back on-lead within 15 metres of the playground and permanent barbecues, and fenced playspace zones are off-limits entirely. The reserve is not fully enclosed, so recall matters with roads and the creek close by. Carry bags, use the bins, and confirm current lead zones against the on-site signage.

The vibe

The reserve has a pavilion, public toilets, sheltered areas, a children's playground and walking trails, plus a barbecue with unshaded seating. There is no reported dog water tap, so bring your own water. This is an open shared-ground park rather than a fenced yard, so it suits active dogs with reliable recall and owners happy to share space with the local sporting clubs.

Max: check the oval before you unclip. If cricket or soccer is running, the off-leash window is closed and the creek trail is your fallback.

Getting there and parking

Access is via Wilsons Road or Harcourt Street, with an on-site car park and pedestrian links from McLeod Street and Gray Street. The reserve connects directly to the Koonung Creek Linear Park for extending the walk.
