Sharon Reserve off Sharon Street is a quiet residential Doncaster reserve set in landscaped grounds, built around a fenced sports field that doubles as the off-leash area. For local owners the enclosed oval is the draw: it gives an active dog a bounded run in a suburb where most reserves are open and unfenced.

The dog setup

Dogs are off-leash on the fenced sportsground under effective control, but not during organised sport, training or matches, so check whether a club is using the field before you unclip. Manningham's buffer rules apply around the rest of the reserve: leads on in the landscaped gardens and playground, and dogs kept 15 metres clear of children's play equipment and the BBQ area. Carry bags, use the bins and confirm current lead zones against council signage. The enclosed oval, a circuit path, a pavilion, shaded tables and a playground make up the site; there is no permanent dog water tap, so bring your own water and bowl.

Getting there and parking

The reserve is on Sharon Street, reached via Manningham Road or Doncaster Road, with free street parking around the perimeter. Buses run along the nearby main roads, and the circuit path makes an easy leashed warm-up lap before the oval session.

Worth knowing

Weekday mid-mornings and early afternoons are the quiet stretches, particularly during school hours; early mornings, late afternoons and weekend mornings are busiest.
