The basics. Rieschiecks Reserve on George Street is a large multi-use sporting reserve in Doncaster East, home to the Tom Kelly Athletics Track plus ovals and paved circuit paths. It is a popular morning and late-afternoon dog-walking spot, with off-lead room on the open ovals when sport is not on.

The rules. Dogs are off-lead on the ovals and surrounding open space under effective voice control, but only when those grounds are not being used for organised sport or training. Dogs are not allowed inside the fenced athletics track at any time. On-lead within 15 metres of playgrounds and BBQs, and whenever matches or training are in progress. Pick up after your dog; bags are provided.

What's there. Paved paths circling the reserve, large grassy ovals, drinking fountains usually fitted with dog bowls, public toilets and a pavilion. Free parking off George Street.

Getting there. On George Street, easily reached from the Eastern Freeway via the Doncaster Road exit. Nearest buses run on Manningham Road and Doncaster Road (routes including 280, 281, 295 and 902), then a short walk.

When to go. Peak dog hours are roughly 6 to 8am and 4.30 to 6.30pm. Weekends are heavily booked by cricket and athletics clubs, which closes the open space to off-lead use, so a late-morning or early-afternoon weekday gives the most room to run.
