The short version. A fully fenced, off-leash dog park in the Coomera Sports Park precinct on the northern Gold Coast. It sits on a gentle rise with open grass and a few trees, and the draw is simple: a secure, double-gated run that stays quieter than the bigger regional parks nearby.

The rules. Dogs go off-leash only inside the fenced enclosure, and they need to be under effective voice control at all times. Leash on until you are through both gates, and check the inner gate has latched behind you before you unclip. This is a City of Gold Coast reserve, so the standard conditions apply: dogs must be registered and wear a current council tag, you carry a lead at all times, you keep clear of any playground and stay at least 10 metres from BBQs and public dining, and you pick up after your dog. Remove any aggressive dog straight away.

What is there. Bench seating for owners, a water fountain (worth noting it is not always right in the centre of the run, so bring a bottle on hot days), and footpaths linking the enclosure to the surrounding streets. Shade is limited, mostly open grass with scattered trees, so plan around the heat in summer.

Getting there. Access is off the local street network near the sports park, with street parking kerbside. It is an easy run from Old Coach Road and Reserve Road, which feed the M1. Local bus routes run along the larger nearby roads if you are on foot.

The ground near the gate turns to a mud pit after rain. Give it a day to drain, or you will be hosing paws in the car park.

When to go. Early mornings and the back half of the week are the quiet slots; Friday afternoon through Saturday evening is the social crush. If your dog likes company, come on the weekend; if you want space, go early.
