Olives Reserve's fenced dog park in Como is a fully enclosed off-leash facility set inside the wider reserve on Labouchere Road, built by the City of South Perth with agility gear and a layout that keeps dogs clear of the adjacent children's playground. It takes dogs of all sizes, which matters because the city's other new fenced park, the small-dog area at Comer Reserve, caps entry at 10kg.

The dog setup

Off-leash applies strictly inside the fenced boundaries; everywhere else in Olives Reserve, dogs stay on lead under City of South Perth regulations. Owners must supervise closely and be able to control their dog immediately. The enclosure has agility-style equipment, a water fountain with a dog bowl, shaded spots and bench seating, and automated lighting comes on around sunset, so evening sessions are workable. The ground can get boggy in patches after rain, so watch your footing. Make sure the double gates latch behind you, because the road side of the reserve is busy.

Max: check the gate is properly shut before you let your dog off the lead. Double-gate setups only work if everyone minds them, and the road along this reserve carries real traffic.

The vibe

Mornings and late afternoons are busiest, especially on weekends, and parking tightens then. If your dog is nervous in a crowd, aim for mid-morning or early afternoon on a weekday. The reserve fronts Labouchere Road, with street parking on the surrounding residential streets. Several buses run along Labouchere Road, and Canning Bridge Station is the nearest train stop with a short connecting walk or bus hop, making this one of the better public-transport-accessible fenced parks in Perth's inner south.
