Our Ruby Girl

Our Ruby Girl is a community-minded brunch cafe on Ley Street in Como, and it makes a genuine point of welcoming dogs rather than just tolerating them. The draw is the relaxed alfresco strip out the front where you can settle in over coffee with the dog beside you.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the outdoor and verandah seating at the front. The kitchen and indoor dining stay people-only, which is standard for a cafe. Staff are warm with dogs and happy to make a fuss, and the cafe even stocks local dog treats so your dog gets something out of the visit too. It is worth bringing your own water bowl in case the day is busy, since the footpath tables fill quickly on weekends.

Worth knowing

It runs as a breakfast, brunch and lunch spot with quality coffee, opening early around 6:15am on weekdays, which makes it an easy first stop after a morning walk. The menu leans wholesome with a few signatures: acai bowls, gnocchi and sausage rolls come up again and again, and vegan options sit alongside them. The cafe is disability friendly as well, with the outdoor strip easy to access off the street.

Getting there

Find it at 2/61 Ley Street, on a local shopping strip with street parking out front. It is an easy walk from the surrounding Como streets if you are already out with the dog, which is how most of the regulars arrive.

Make a morning of it

The Olives Reserve Fenced Dog Park is the enclosed off-lead option in Como, and the South Perth Foreshore is a few minutes away by car for a proper riverside leg-stretch. For another coffee run in the area, Bread Espresso Bar sits on the same side of town.
