Olive and Oil Mount Pleasant

Olive and Oil is a licensed cafe and bistro at 19 Ogilvie Road in Mount Pleasant, and it is one of the few in the riverside pocket that advertises itself outright as pet friendly. The covered outdoor dining area out the front is where dogs go, and it makes the cafe an easy call for a weekend breakfast after a walk along the Canning River.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the covered outdoor seating, on lead and settled at your table. The space is shared with other diners and it gets busy at peak brunch times, so keep your dog tucked in close when the footpath traffic picks up. Water bowls are typically available on request, though it is worth carrying your own on a warm morning. Indoors is people-only.

What the kitchen is known for

The menu runs to hearty sweet and savoury brunch plates, and the spicy chorizo shakshuka is the dish locals keep coming back for. The chilli scramble, eggs benedict and avocado toast all get regular nods, and the kitchen strays past standard brunch fare with bunny chows, chicken tikka burgers and lemon pepper squid on the specials side. There are vegetarian, vegan and kid-friendly options too. Hours are 7am to 1:30pm Monday to Saturday and 7:30am to 1:30pm Sunday, so plan your visit around a breakfast-and-lunch window rather than an afternoon coffee.

Getting there

Ogilvie Road runs off Canning Highway in Mount Pleasant, and the stretch up to the cafe is now two-way, which makes access simpler than it used to be. There is on-site parking plus street parking on the surrounding blocks, and the venue is wheelchair accessible through entrance, parking and seating. For other dog-friendly tables nearby, Coco Belle Espresso Bar on Queens Road is a few minutes' walk, Pig & Fig Cafe sits by the Attadale foreshore, and Kinky Lizard Cafe on Mews is across the river in Applecross.
