Collinsvale Fenced Dog Park

Collinsvale Fenced Dog Park is a fully enclosed off-leash field behind the War Memorial Hall and fire station on Hall Road, in the hills about 20 to 25 minutes from Hobart. A community-built park on a former gun club site, it is a quiet, semi-rural spot where dogs get room to run without traffic, crowds or a road anywhere near the fence line.

The dog setup

The perimeter is completely fenced, which makes this a rare find in Tasmania for dogs that wander or do not have reliable recall. There are separate fenced areas for large and small dogs, so introductions happen on your terms rather than in one big mixed yard. Shaded seating and a picnic table give owners somewhere to settle, and bins are provided on site.

Do not count on water fountains, agility gear or bags as standard, so bring your own water and poo bags. Supervise at all times and keep to the usual etiquette: dogs in heat, sick or unvaccinated dogs stay home, and rough play gets a leash break.

Worth knowing

This is a working rural paddock, not a manicured city park. The ground can turn muddy or a touch overgrown depending on the season, so old boots and a towel in the car are worth packing. Popularity is moderate rather than heavy; weekend mornings and late afternoons draw the most dogs, while weekdays and early mornings often mean you have the field to yourself, which suits dogs that need space to settle.

Max: a whole paddock, a fence I cannot beat, and not one car to bark at. Rural bliss.

Getting there and parking

The park sits at 14 Hall Road, Collinsvale, behind the local oval, hall and fire station, easy to spot once you are in the village. Parking is available near the hall and oval precinct. Public transport out here is limited, so a car is the practical option; the drive through the hills from Glenorchy is part of the appeal.

Close by with the dogs

Pair the session with the Zig Zag Trail for an on-lead bushwalk in the same village, or head back towards the city for the John Turnbull Park Fenced Dog Park in Lenah Valley. Coffee after works at Bam Cafe and Bakery in New Town.
