Caffeine Palace

Caffeine Palace is a small, community-minded coffee stop at 509 Main Road, Montrose, on the northern fringe of Hobart between the city and Glenorchy. It pours Toby's Estate beans and runs an all-day breakfast menu, with outdoor footpath seating that works for a quick coffee with your dog in tow and mountain views across the Derwent.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the outdoor footpath tables, which run along the busy Main Road frontage, so it is a streetside setup rather than an enclosed courtyard. Indoor seating is people only. There is no confirmed water bowl service, so pack your own travel bowl and top up before you settle in, especially on a warm morning. Keep your dog close and leashed, as the footpath sits beside a main road with steady traffic.

Worth knowing

The kitchen covers all-day breakfast through to burgers and toasties, with house-baked cakes and pastries in the cabinet, and regulars rate the service and portion sizes highly. Hours are 6am to 2:30pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 2:30pm on weekends, so this is a breakfast-and-lunch stop rather than an afternoon one. Weekday mornings bring the coffee rush from commuters and locals; mid-morning is calmer if you want space to settle a dog.

Getting there and parking

Caffeine Palace is on Main Road, Montrose, an easy stop off the Brooker Highway corridor. Parking is street only along Main Road and the side streets, so expect to circle at busy times.

Close by with the dogs

The Intercity Cycleway runs nearby along the Derwent for a longer on-lead walk, and Montrose Park is close for a leg-stretch before coffee. Chapel Street Reserve Fenced Dog Park in Glenorchy is a short drive south when your dog needs a proper off-lead run.
