John Turnbull Park Fenced Dog Park

John Turnbull Park Fenced Dog Park is a purpose-built, fully fenced dog park on Lenah Valley Road, part of the wider John Turnbull Park. It covers around 15,000 square metres split into a large general area and a smaller section for puppies, small dogs or nervous dogs still learning their manners.

The rules. Entry is through double airlock gates, so you unclip the lead safely before your dog reaches the main play area rather than fumbling at a single gate. Dogs must stay under control and aggressive dogs should be removed immediately. The park closes for maintenance every Wednesday from 9:30am to 12:30pm, so avoid that window. Bag dispensers are on site but they can run out, so bring your own.

What's there. The fenced area has a mulched agility zone, a sandpit, a gravel section with rocks and logs to explore, and shaded spots to escape the sun. Water stations are provided for dogs, with a separate fountain for owners, and there are picnic tables and benches for supervising from the sidelines. A children's playground sits nearby in the broader park.

Getting there. The park is on Lenah Valley Road, Lenah Valley, with a dedicated car park right by the entrance and overflow parking near Creek Road. Metro Tasmania buses run along Lenah Valley Road if you're coming without a car.

Nearby with the dogs. Whisk and Co on Augusta Road is a popular local cafe stop after a play session. For a bigger outdoor area, Room For A Pony in North Hobart is a short drive away.

Weekend mornings and Saturday afternoons are the busiest, so if your dog is easily overwhelmed, aim for a weekday morning or after 5pm, and use the smaller section when the main area is crowded.
