Girrabong Park

Girrabong Park is a small community reserve at the end of Girrabong Road in Lenah Valley, an elevated grassy space that locals use for daily walks. Dogs can run off-leash here, but only within set hours, so it pays to know the window before you go.

The rules. Off-leash access runs from 9am to 7pm; outside those hours dogs must stay on-lead. Dogs are not allowed within 10 metres of the basketball area at any time, and even off-leash they need to be under effective control and not chasing or barking at people, wildlife or vehicles. Bring registration tags and expect to clean up after your dog into the provided bins.

What's there. The reserve has waste bins, picnic tables and benches for keeping an eye on your dog while it plays, plus a children's play area. There is no dedicated dog water bowl mentioned, so bring your own water on warm days.

Getting there. Access is off Lenah Valley Road via Girrabong Road, with residential street parking nearby. Metro Tasmania buses run along Lenah Valley Road, a short walk from the park.

Go straight after the 9am opening or in the late afternoon if you want company for your dog, or aim for midday on a weekday for a quieter run. Confirm the off-leash hours haven't changed with the City of Hobart before you go.
