New Town Rivulet Linear Park

The New Town Rivulet track follows the creek from suburban New Town up into bushland in Lenah Valley, past cascading pools and community sculptures. Dogs are welcome on a lead, as long as they stay on the formal paths.

Lead rules

The City of Hobart asks for dogs on a lead on its managed tracks. Off the formal trails, dogs must keep at least 10 metres from the rivulet edge to protect wildlife habitat.

The walk

Lower down, gravel paths keep the gradient easy. Higher up, it becomes an earth and log-edged bush track heading towards the foothills of Wellington Park.

Native plantings and tall streamside trees shade much of the way.

Max: Stick to the formal track. Off it, dogs have to keep well back from the water to protect the creek's wildlife.

Getting started

Street parking is available near access points such as Rangeview Crescent, and bins sit at the main entries. Carry water for the dog.

Make a day of it

Finish with a coffee at Abercrombie Coffee in North Hobart.

The shade makes it a good summer walk, and the easy lower section suits older dogs.
