Iluka Reserve Fenced Dog Park

Iluka Reserve is a fully fenced off-leash dog park on Iluka Avenue in Aspendale, in bayside Melbourne under the City of Kingston, a short walk from the train station and backing onto sports ground and playground space. The selling point is security: double-gated entries mean you can let a bolter off the lead without keeping one eye on the exits.

The dog setup

Off-leash applies inside the fenced southern section of the reserve only. Inside, dogs run under effective voice control while you stay in the enclosure; the northern side around the children's playground and the adjoining sports oval stays on-leash, so keep your dog off the field when matches or training are on. A water tap with a bowl sits along the dividing path, bins cover the clean-up, and mature trees plus seating ring the grass. The surface is mostly grass with football and soccer goals inside the zone, and it drains poorly: after rain the ground turns to mud, so pick a dry window if a filthy car seat bothers you. The reserve is wheelchair accessible.

Max: Latch the outer gate before the unclip, then stop worrying. This is the park for a dog still learning its recall.

The vibe

This is a tight local patch rather than a destination park, with a regular crew at weekend mornings and weekday afternoons after 4pm. Mid-morning on a dry weekday is the quietest and driest slot. The playground nearby makes it work for families, and well-socialised dogs fit the shared enclosure best, so if yours is rusty on manners, warm it up on an on-lead walk first.

Getting there and parking

Turn off the Nepean Highway or Station Street into Iluka Avenue. There is no dedicated car park, so you are on surrounding streets, which tightens up on weekend mornings. Aspendale station on the Frankston line is within walking distance, making this an easy train-plus-dog trip.
