Kevin Hayes Reserve on Crown Avenue is Mordialloc's large, fully fenced off-leash dog park, and the secure enclosure is why owners drive here from all over the bayside: a bolter or a dog with patchy recall can run flat out without a road anywhere near the fence line. A coffee van is a regular fixture in the peak morning windows, which turns a workout into a social stop.

The dog setup

The whole area is enclosed with self-closing double gates, so the one non-negotiable job is making sure the gate latches behind you on the way in and out. Inside there is a large grassed running space, a dedicated agility and obstacle section, a water fountain for dogs, and shade from established trees.

Dogs run off-leash inside the fence under effective voice or hand control. Waste bags and bins are provided, though carrying spares is sensible when the dispensers run low on a busy weekend. Step-free access from the street suits older dogs and prams alike.

The vibe

The park is open around the clock, with lighting covering the early-morning and evening visits that a 9-to-5 schedule demands. Saturday and Sunday mornings are the social peak, when the coffee van is pouring and the regulars compare notes on everything from vets to adoption days. Mid-morning on weekdays is the quiet choice if your dog prefers space to strangers.

Getting there and parking

Free street parking runs along Crown Avenue right by the gate. Mordialloc station on the Frankston line is a short trip away with buses covering the gap, so it works as a car-free option too. The reserve sits a few minutes off Nepean Highway without any highway noise reaching the fence.

While you're out there

George Woods Reserve Dog Off Leash Area is the second Mordialloc option if you want variety or the main run is crowded. For a sit-down coffee with the dog, The Mordi Canteen on Beach Road and Siesta Cafe & Deli both take dogs at the outdoor tables.
