Browns Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

Browns Reserve is an off-leash area off Browns Lane in Aspendale, set among wetlands near Mordialloc Creek. It is a natural, bush-like reserve rather than a manicured oval, and that is both the appeal and the catch: the space is open and only partly fenced, so it suits dogs with a reliable recall.

The rules. Dogs are off-leash in the designated area under effective voice control. The reserve is not fully enclosed, with open access to the surrounding wetlands, so a dog that does not come back on command can get a long way from you quickly. The adjoining sports oval is generally on-leash. Follow the City of Kingston signage for the exact boundaries, and clean up after your dog; bins sit near the northern pavilion.

What's there. On-site parking near the pavilion, gravel walking trails, and natural scrub. There is no reliable water tap, so bring your own. Public toilets exist but are often locked. The ground holds water and turns very muddy after rain, so keep a towel in the car.

When to go. Weekday evenings and weekend mornings are busiest. A dry mid-week visit is quietest and cleanest underfoot. If it is crowded or waterlogged, Glen Street Reserve or the fenced Iluka Reserve are close alternatives, and Aspendale Beach is a short drive for a firmer walk.
