Nurten Parade Reserve is a quiet suburban off-leash park in Aspendale Gardens, a grassy, tree-shaded strip with a concrete path running its length. It is not a marquee destination, but it does the job well for locals who want space and calm without a crowd.

The rules. The reserve is off-leash between 5pm and 10am, and on-leash from 10am to 5pm. Off-leash use is not permitted while sporting activities are underway on site. Keep a lead on hand regardless of the hour.

What's there. Two bench seats, rubbish bins at each end of the reserve, and good natural shade from established trees. There is no water station, so bring your own. The reserve is not fully fenced.

No fencing and no water on site means this one is better suited to dogs with solid recall. Bring a bowl and keep an eye on the boundary if your dog tends to wander.

Getting there. The reserve sits directly on Nurten Parade, off Wells Road, with ample street parking nearby. Local buses run along Wells Road for those without a car.

Best visited early morning before 10am or after 5pm, when the off-leash hours are in effect and the reserve is at its quietest. A solid, no-fuss option for a calm run rather than a big day out.
