Henry Dr Dog Off-Lead Park is the fully fenced dog park in the southern open space of Bruce Comben Reserve, off Henry Drive in Altona Meadows. Hobsons Bay council built it as a proper enclosed off-leash area with a natural woodland feel, which makes it the pick in this suburb for dogs that cannot yet be trusted in open parkland.
The rules. Off-leash applies inside the fence, with dogs under effective control at all times. Outside the enclosure the reserve's standard rules kick in, so leads on around the playground and the wetland edges. Hobsons Bay requires all dogs over three months to be registered with council, and bins are provided for pick-up.
What's there. Timber and wire mesh fencing with a landscaped buffer, informal seating, and scattered logs and rocks that give dogs something to sniff and climb rather than a bare paddock. Drinking taps with dog bowls are on hand, with picnic tables and a playground in the wider reserve, plus a public toilet block near the playground. The park sits beside the reserve's wetlands, so expect birdlife on the other side of the fence.

Getting there. Park at the playground car park on Henry Drive, off Central Avenue; accessible bays are provided. Laverton Station is roughly a five minute drive, and Central Square Shopping Centre is a similar hop if you need coffee or supplies.
Nearby with the dogs. The open off-leash ground at A.B. Shaw Reserve is nearby when your dog has outgrown the fence, and Little Rosebery Cafe has dog-friendly outdoor tables for the post-park debrief.
Weekdays are generally quiet and weekend mornings are the busiest window, so aim for early morning or late afternoon if your dog likes space. The secure fencing makes it a good first stop for nervous dogs and new rescues still working on recall.
