Hobsons Bay City Council - Unrestricted Dog off Leash Area

This Hobsons Bay City Council unrestricted off-leash area sits south of Laverton Creek on Bladin Street, opposite McCormack Park, running from the creek down to the cyclone wire fence. It is open, unfenced parkland rather than a built dog park, and the draw is uncomplicated: a large grassed area where dogs can run free at any hour without hunting for a designated leash zone.

Leash status

Off-leash here is unrestricted, meaning no time windows to work around, but the council conditions still apply: dogs stay under effective voice or hand control, within sight, and return immediately when called. You must carry a leash at all times and clip it back on the moment you leave the designated boundary, including around the public paths and the creek. Waste pick-up is a legal requirement, and a bag dispenser and bin sit on site. Dogs over three months need current council registration with the tag worn.

Max: no fence between the grass and the street. Until recall holds up around traffic noise, keep the new dog on a long line.

Water and terrain

Expect a big open grass area with a waste station, and little else in the way of facilities, so bring your own water. The reserve connects to the Laverton Creek walking paths if you want to extend the outing on-lead. Street parking along Bladin Street is limited, with wheelchair-accessible spaces near the reserve. Laverton and Aircraft stations are both a short trip away if you are coming by train and walking in.

Weekday mornings and late afternoons bring the local regulars, so mid-morning or early afternoon usually means more room to yourselves. This is a park for confident dogs with solid recall rather than nervous or easily distracted ones.
