The dog setup
While it was trading, dogs were welcome in the outdoor patio seating at the front of the cafe, with the indoor dining area reserved for people. That made it an easy stop for owners driving between Hervey Bay's dog parks and the esplanade. There was no fee and no booking for a pet-friendly table, just the usual cafe etiquette: keep your dog on lead and close to your chair. Regulars brought their own water bowls rather than assuming one would be out.
Worth knowing
Evan and Holly Munroe opened Henri's as a from-scratch kitchen, and it built a following for house-made slow-cooked dishes, sauces and sweets alongside all-day breakfast and lunch. The brisket hoagie rolls and Caesar wraps were the recurring orders, with vegan and vegetarian plates on the menu and oversized lemon meringue lamingtons in the cabinet. The gourmet retail shelf meant you could take home the same sauces and preserves that were on the plate.
Getting there
The cafe sat at Shop 8, 7 Central Avenue, Urraween, a short drive south-east of the Hervey Bay city centre. Street parking ran along Central Avenue out front, with more behind the neighbouring shopping plaza. It kept weekday hours only, opening roughly 7:30am to 2pm Monday to Friday, which suited a post-walk coffee more than a weekend brunch run.
Close by with the dogs
If you are in Urraween with a dog, Urraween Dog Park on Julie Ann Street and the Augustus Estate Fenced Dog Park are both minutes away, and the Pialba off leash dog beach covers the morning surf-and-sand shift. For a coffee afterwards, Sea Breeze Cafe in Scarness is a short drive north.
