Sea Breeze Cafe Hervey Bay

Sea Breeze Cafe sits at shop 2, 363 Esplanade in Scarness, directly across from the beach and Scarness Park on the Hervey Bay foreshore. It is an all-day breakfast and lunch cafe with a wide menu, and the ocean-facing alfresco tables out front are the spot for anyone walking the Esplanade with a dog.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the outdoor alfresco area, not inside the cafe. The tables face the water across the road, so you can keep an eye on the leash while you eat. Staff generally have water bowls on hand given how much foot traffic the strip gets, but a collapsible bowl removes the guesswork on a busy morning. Keep your dog on lead and settled clear of the footpath, which carries a steady stream of prams and other dogs.

The vibe

The menu runs from eggs benedict and corn fritters to pancakes, a scallop omelette and even an okonomiyaki, with gluten-free and vegan options alongside. It is a licensed cafe, so a glass of wine with lunch is on the cards. Hours are 7am to 1pm Thursday to Monday, with Tuesday and Wednesday closed, so plan the dog walk breakfast accordingly.

Max: go early on a weekend. The good tables fill fast and the foreshore is cooler before the midday sun comes over the water.

Getting there and parking

Street parking runs along the Esplanade and the side streets near Scarness Park, with some off-street parking at the venue. If you are already on the foreshore path it is an easy walk-up from anywhere along the Scarness strip.

While you're out there

Scarness beach directly opposite has a 24/7 off-leash area, so a swim before breakfast is straightforward. The Urangan off-leash dog beach is the other end of the bay if you are making a morning of it, and Decoy Cafe roasts its own coffee a few doors up the Esplanade.
