Scarness beach Dogs off leash 24/7 area

This is the 24/7 off-leash run on the Scarness foreshore, stretching along the sand from Tooan Tooan Creek at Pialba down to the Scarness Jetty. No time restrictions is the draw here: it is a long, uninterrupted beach open to dogs under control at any hour.

The rules. Off-leash applies 24 hours a day, seven days a week, along the marked zone. The boundary ends firmly at Scarness Jetty, and the family swimming area between the jetty and Robert Street is dog-free, so do not cross into it. Dogs must stay under effective control and respond reliably to recall, and off-leash does not mean out of control. Waste bags and the bins provided are mandatory. Dogs should be council-registered and vaccinated.

What's there. Bins sit along the Esplanade walkway near the beach entrances. A paved path runs parallel to the sand for on-leash walking when the beach is hot, with multiple sandy access points from the footpath, including by the parklands.

The water and sand. Sandy beach with calm water sheltered by K'gari (Fraser Island), which makes it a comfortable spot for a swim and a social wander. The beach is widest at low tide and narrower at high, so time a low tide for maximum running room.

Getting there. The zone runs along the Esplanade at Scarness and Pialba. Free street parking is available along the Esplanade, and a central starting point is near Central Ave or the Scarness Jetty parking area. Local buses run along the main roads to the Esplanade.

When to go. Weekends, public holidays, and the early-morning and late-afternoon windows are busiest. For a shy dog, a mid-week or late morning is calmer. Good for social dogs who like room to swim and roam.
