Scatter Bean

Scatter Bean is an eclectic, community-minded cafe at 7A Princess Street in Taringa, tucked in the quiet backstreet beside Taringa station just off Moggill Road. It has built a strong local following on the back of smooth coffee, hearty breakfasts and staff who are famously welcoming to dogs, which makes it an easy anchor for a neighbourhood walk.

The dog setup

Dogs join you at the outdoor tables out the front, a footpath and patio section with umbrellas where your dog can settle right beside you. Staff are quick to bring out a water bowl, and the side-street setting is calmer than a main-road frontage even though Moggill Road is a few steps away. Aim for a table towards the quieter end if your dog is unsettled by passing foot traffic.

The vibe and the food

The breakfast list runs to eggs Benedict, Turkish eggs, toasties, wraps and house-baked banana bread, with gluten-free options and well-regarded coffee. There is usually a free book exchange by the counter, a vintage stereogram you can spin records on, and Thai dinners on select Friday evenings. Hours run mornings into the early afternoon, opening from 6:30am on weekdays and 7am on weekends, with the kitchen wrapping up around 1:30pm, so it is a breakfast-and-lunch stop rather than a late one.

Getting there and parking

Princess Street is steps from Taringa train station, which is the easiest way in. Street parking on the surrounding backstreets can be tight at weekend brunch, another reason the train or a walk-in visit works well.

Nearby with the dogs

For a proper off-lead run, Anzac Park's fenced dog park in Toowong is a short drive away, and Faulkner Park's fenced dog park covers the Graceville side. If you are pairing cafes, Hetty and Herm's by Robertson Park and Lambert Cafe in Indooroopilly are both dog-friendly stops close by.
