Pour First

Pour First is a compact espresso bar at 41 Watland Street in central Springwood, running an early, morning-first service six days a week. It has built a five-star Google average the hard way: sharp coffee, warm staff and a genuine welcome for dogs at the open-air seating out front, puppychinos included.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the footpath-style seating along the front of the shop, and that is the whole territory here. It is a small shop, so a dog that settles under the table will fare better than a restless pacer, and staff have a reputation for making a fuss of the regulars' dogs. Ask at the counter and they will pour a puppychino alongside your order.

Worth knowing

The coffee is Fonzie Abbott's Highside blend, and the food runs to quick, reliable staples: toasties, bacon and egg rolls, a well-regarded Reuben, plus pastries and cookies. Hours run roughly 6am to 1pm Monday to Saturday with the doors shut on Sundays, so treat it as a morning venue and check the day's hours before a special trip.

Getting there and parking

Watland Street sits just off the Pacific Motorway in central Springwood. On-street parking on Watland and the surrounding streets is usually manageable, though the weekday commuter rush tightens it up. Mid-morning on a weekday is the calm window for a settled dog; this footpath is too tight for big boisterous types at peak.

Close by with the dogs

Springwood Dog Park covers the off-lead run this compact footpath cannot, and the on-lead bush tracks through Daisy Hill are a short drive down the road for a proper walk afterwards. The fenced areas at Underwood Park are also close, with agility equipment and a lagoon loop attached.
